Another book that I needed to read for my Lit. Group librarians, this novel has received the Schneider Family Book Award. This novel has brought me to tears!!!! Once I read this book, I could not put it down at all, besides it is an easy read compared to the others honestly.
Rose Howard is autistic (main character) and she explains her story throughout in her own eyes and way of thinking. She lives with her father and sees her uncle frequently (sweetest man ever). She loves to mention prime numbers, especially in the number of letters in a word and loves homonyms, which she keeps a long list of them for herself. The title comes from the name of her dog Rain, a dog that her father found and later gave it to her as a gift. Rose decided to name her Rain because it has two homonyms: Rain and Reign. Things start to change and Rose makes choices (she always wants to do the right thing) in which questions her own feelings. If you want to know more about this book and why I cried like a baby, check it out at the library whenever you can!
Mrs. Shivery: I have been an elementary teacher for 5 years and a high school librarian for 3 years. This is my 3rd year at Indian Ridge and I absolutely love it! I am a BRLA member, Children's Lit Chair, and the Southwest Book Award committee member.
